My knowledge and general comfort with Debian based linux distributions has been increasing quickly in recent months.
One thing i have found very worthwhile and interesting is installing Ubuntu and Debian in minimalist fashions then building up the distro only installing the packages you want; cutting a lot of the bulk that comes with a standard installation.
Seems my idea of keeping an updated blog isn't panning out quite as planned ;S ...but i guess it's something that's common.
As said a couple of posts ago, i was going to try and chronicle much about my experiences playing an MMORPG called Eternal Lands, but in the time since that blog entry a project that we'd had on the back-burner has been brought back into the spotlight.
Many years ago Fallen (who is now my housemate) introduced me to Linux, since then i've attempted to move to Linux as my desktop OS quite a few times. I tried many different distributions, with the longest lasting stint, until recently, being on Fedora Core 5.
It's been speculated that someone like myself, who has extensive knowledge of both using and troubleshooting Windows, is going to have more issues than most people making the switch to Linux.
I was used to being extremely capable on my computer, to suddenly be a 'newb' again was not easy, and had me returning to Windows time and time again.
Through my pre-teen years, most of the gaming i did was on consoles. The SNES occupied many of my waking hours, especially before i really got into the technical side of PC's. Certainly the games i enjoyed most were Squaresoft's RPGs (Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, etc.), and since then i've been a pretty solid RPG fan and have played many single player games over the years. Later on i got more into FPS and especially RTS games... Starcraft was a favorite pastime for a good long while...
Then somewhere in in early 2006, my Linux loving friend, Fallen, who was living with us at the time (and still is my housemate to this day), makes me aware of a multi-platform, free MMORPG called Eternal Lands.
A blog about my experiences with various aspects of technical computing, often including detailed troubleshooting accounts. Also the journaling of my activities and thoughts as a player of the beta MMORPG, Eternal Lands. (www.eternal-lands.com)
